Mi trovo a scrivere la mia prima recensione su questo blog glabro, e come meglio cominciare se con un mixtape dall’originale capello riccio!
Si tratta di "HARDCOVEGGIO STRUT" del dj Tony Mascarella di Bologna, storico mattatore di nottate bolognesi, nonché esponente della crew che da vita alle serate “Funky Vag".
Chi calpesta quotidianamente l’asfalto di Bologna, sa già che nel titolo si trova l’omaggio ad un quartiere della felsinea città (giocando tra hardcore e arcoveggio appunto), infatti il mixtape di Tony, insieme al mio “Franco Bolognese Soul Glow” ed al “Bolognina Lovecore” di Brother Martin (che vi consiglio di cercare in rete), sono la giusta colonna sonora da settare sul vostro ipod prima di attraversare il nostro multietnico quartiere Bolognina.
Dentro "Hardcoveggio Strut" potete trovare tutti gli odori che speziano le ricette musicali di Tony Mascarella: l’antipasto ci è servito da uno storico Lord Tanamo, che con la sua voce soul su un ritmo in levare ci introduce già a tutto quel che seguirà.
La combinazione di primi è infatti una portata di dub: una giusta miscela di echi a nastro, reverberi a molla ed armonica vi trasmettono sapori di posti lontani, poi subentrano tonnellate di bassi per risvegliarvi e riportarvi con i piedi per terra (o sotto i portici se preferite).
Degna di menzione su tutte una versione di Byron Lee & the Dragonaires di Who Dunnit, le prime battute della batteria, in tipico stile stomp accompagnano un farfisa in levare e, affiancati da una picking guitar, gettano un ponte tra Kingston e Philadelfia, eretto da piloni che nient’altro sono se non il bagaglio musicale di Tony.
Il tempo di "sciacquarsi" la bocca dai sapori giamaicano con il cinematico soul de “El Michel Affair”, e il secondo (e la seconda parte del mixtape) è imbastito: si riparte con la voce bianca graffiante e carica di soul di Alice Russel (no, non siete a Detroit ma bensì a Brighton…incredibile a dirsi).
Il piatto è degnamente completato poi dai beatmakers francesi Jazz Liberators, dai Meters (la colonna sonora della bolognina), da un grandissimo e saggissimo skit preso da un film di Jim Jarmush (uno dei mie registi preferiti), Willie West e da un pezzardo di Free the Robots.
Il tempo di una paglia offerta dai Dread Flimstone e da Gregory Isaacs, che dolce e frutta son serviti: i Mattafix ci portano nel giusto stato d’animo dopo tali portate musicali e U-roy & Hopeton Lewis ci mettono la ciliegina con Tom Drunk (campionata anche da Black Star).
L’amaro Tosca infine lo offre la casa.
